Thursday – Dog Care Article – Winter Weather Safety

On this Thursday dog care article comment I am going to be talking about an article called “Winter Weather Safety Tips for your Pup.” This article was written by Dr. Jennifer Deming, DVM. The link to the full article is here “Winter Weather Safety Tips For Your Pup“.

This article covers some of the common concerns of dog care that you may have when taking your dog outdoors in the winter weather. She covers how ice can be uncomfortable when it gets stuck to your dogs belly or worse in your dogs toes. It also covers things that could be easily looked over when it comes to winter safety. An example would be making sure that your dogs pads don’t crack. She also covers how to keep your dog from accidentally ingesting the chemicals that are sprayed on the road.

The one thing that I don’t agree with in this article is the quote “If it’s too cold for you, then it’s too cold for them.” This could be true depending on the breed of the dog. However, certain breeds love to be outside in the snow. An example would be a malamute dog or dogs that have a double coat. Although these dogs shouldn’t be outside in every type of weather they are more suited for the outdoors then a chihuahua. And even if you are cold they could be perfectly happy playing outside. If you do decide to let your fluffier dog play outside in the snow for longer she does cover warning signs of things to look out for that could spell danger.
