There are plenty of obvious dangerous items for dogs but what about the hidden items that you may not think of. Here is my story about my previous dog and a very commonplace dangerous item she found.
Its no secret that dogs love sticks. Yes I said sticks. The pieces of trees that dogs love to drag around the yard and carry in their mouth. So whats the problem?
I was trimming an apple tree in my front yard. My dog was with me chewing on a stick. I really didn’t care as long as she wasn’t eating the stick (like she occasionally tried to do.) I looked over and noticed her acting weird.
She was pawing with her front paws at her mouth repeatedly. Odd. I went over to her and looked at her. She looked fine. Then I opened her mouth. She had a small piece of tree branch lodged in the roof of her mouth. It was lodged inside her teeth from the right to the left side of the roof of her mouth horizontally.
I reached in her mouth and gently was able to pull the stick out. Thankfully there was no blood and she wasn’t hurt. However, what if I wasn’t paying attention and she got the stick loose and choked on it? I had done a ton of research before getting a dog. And never have I heard of anyone mentioning that sticks can be dangerous.
