Traveling With Dogs In Car

So you adopted your first dog and are wondering what is a safe way to transport the dog in your car? There isn’t a simple quick answer to this because it depends on your vehicle and how your dog behaves in your car.

The first thing to think about is is it possible to fit a crate in your car? If you can’t fit a crate that is properly sized for your dog in the car you will need to go with a harness.

Another thing to think about is if you have room for a crate in your car do you have a way to secure the crate to the bottom of your car? If you have to slam on the brakes the last thing you would want is for your dog crate to go sliding around. If there would happen to be an accident the crate could end up crashing around inside your car.

Next think about how your dog behaves in the car. If your dog gets car sick it’s better to put a crate in the car to make it easier to clean up the mess. If your dog is so dog aggressive or reactive that he/she freaks out and rips up your car trying to get to the other dog it would be safer to go with a crate since it can contain your dog to a smaller area.

There are a few things to consider when deciding whether traveling with dogs in car is better with a crate or a harness. Ultimately, the decision depends on how your dog behaves, your personal choices, how your vehicle is laid out, and your lifestyle.
