A big part of dog care is making sure your dog gets enough exercise. It may not seem like a big difference between walking during the day vs at night however walking your dog at night can be more dangerous. Here are a few basic things you need to be aware of when walking your dog at night.
The first thing to keep in mind is that since it’s dark out it will be difficult to see your dog at night. This is especially important when crossing the street or walking in the road. Just because you can see a car and they can see you doesn’t mean that they can see your dog.
Make sure you have a way to make your dog more visible at night. You can use reflective tape on their leash as a quick fix. You could also purchase a reflective leash and or collar to make your dog more visible.
If you don’t like or want to use reflective collars or leashes they now make leashes and collars with lights in them which makes it much easier to see your dog at night. They also have a light you can clip to your dogs collar to help illuminate the ground around your dog.
Finally you can always use the traditional way of using a flashlight. The downside of this however is that it requires you to hold it which ties up a hand you may need to use if your dog goes to the bathroom.
Whichever method you choose please be sure to use it consistently to provide the best dog care possible. It can be a hassle to remember one more thing when taking your dog out for their walk in the dark however it could save their life.
