When you to go purchase a crate it can be confusing to figure out which crate is the best size for your dog. When I first when to get a crate I figured well these companies know about dog care and which crate size would work well so I picked the one with my dogs breed on it. I realized I made a mistake when my dog’s trainer looked at my crate and said “You could fit two of her in there.”. So first off, don’t go by matching the dogs breed with what the crate says.
Dogs tend to vary their size even within the breed so keep in mind how large your dog is if he/she is full grown. If you are adopting a puppy make sure to get a crate with an adjustable divider in it so you can make the crate smaller and then move the divider to make it larger as your puppy grows.
The formula for figuring out the correct crate size for your dog is quite simple. First off your dog should be able to comfortably stand, turn around, and lay down in the crate.
It may seem like a good idea to get a larger crate but I do not recommend it. This is because dogs don’t want to use the bathroom where they sleep but if the crate is too big they can be comfortable using part of it is a bathroom and the other part of the crate as a sleeping area which would be counter productive when crate training.
