Although it’s necessary for dog care to exercise your dog it can be boring doing the same walk every day. If you have a high energy dog it would be a faster way to wear them out if you could run with them however if you don’t run you can always use a dog bicycle leash.
Although technically you could just take a dog leash in your hand and have your dog run alongside your bike I would highly recommend not doing this. I know someone who broke his arm running his dog next to his bike and there are many things that can be dangerous for you and for the dog when you hold the leash.
You can get an attachment for your bicycle that allows your dog to run alongside your bike safely and keeps you safe at the same time. The leashes tend to absorb at least some of the pulling your dog may do when he or she wants to do a different direction or sees a squirrel.
I used the walky dog leash attachment. It allows you to clip a metal stick to the side of your bike that helps absorb some of the shock of your dog pulling when you are biking. It also detaches from the bike easy so you can use the metal part of the walky dog as a leash.
Finally be sure before you decide to take your dog running alongside your bike that your dog is well trained. You want them to know how to heel and a basic leave it so they don’t go chasing after every squirrel on your run.
