DIY Paracord Dog Leash – Hands Free – Bootlace Knot

DIY Paracord Dog Leash Hands Free Bootlace Knot

This hands free leash was made using the bootlace knot.  The leash can be clipped to your pants, a belt, etc. Be aware however if your dog pulls a lot to attach the leash to something more secure.

Supplies Needed:

  1. Scissors
  2. Paracord – The length depends on the length you want the leash to be. In the video I used one strand of paracord at 140 inches to make 7 and 1/2 inches of knots and had 27 inches left over. To make a 6 foot leash you will need around 100 feet of paracord.
  3. Lighter – To singe the ends of the paracord. Can also be used to finish and melt the ends to the main cords at the end of the paracord dog leash.
  4. Dog Leash Clip – You can use whatever you prefer as the dog leash clip. In my video I used a lobster clasp rated for a maximum weight of 40 pounds.
  5. Paracord Jig (Optional) – This is helpful for keeping your paracord tight when working. The one I used in this video can be found at https://amzn.to/2JTmG0A This is helpful for creating a short leash when using both clips (the maximum length when using both hooks on the jig is 18 inches). If you only use the one clip you can use it to make a longer leash.
