Adopting A Dog From The Dog Pound
My former dog Terra was adopted from the dog pound which is also known as a dog rescue. When adopting from a dog rescue there are some more things to keep in mind especially if you are adopting an older dog.
Do dogs at pounds have a lot of issues?
It’s a common misconception that all dogs at dog pounds have a lot of issues. While some dogs may have major problems a lot may not. Other reasons that a dog may end up in a shelter could be due to the owners death or financial problems.
How do you choose a dog from a dog pound?
When going to adopt a dog from a dog pound make sure to take time to get to know the dog. While they will potentially be stressed out you can likely find out something about the dogs personality. The shelter may or may not have information on the dog. If the dog was found wandering the streets they may only be able to guess the dogs age. If the dog was surrendered they may have a lot more information on the dog like favorite games etc.
Can I get someone to evaluate a shelter dog for me?
Yes, If you are unsure about picking a shelter dog you can hire a trainer to evaluate the dogs you are considering.
