Are you wondering how to put together a dog travel bag? Here are some things to make sure you include in your dogs bag. This bag can be used for emergencies or for basic travel. To use the bag for emergencies make sure that you rotate out the perishable items (food, treats) so they are fresh if you need to use them.

1) Medications – If your dog requires medication please dont forget to bring it with! This includes meds like heartworm preventative that may need to be taken when you are on vacation with your dog.

2) Vet Records – I know your thinking that nothing could go wrong but unfortunately things can go wrong. Make sure to include the folder or binder you create of your dogs medical history.

3) Water – Depending on where you are going and how you are traveling water can be very important. Some dogs have sensitive stomachs and its a good idea to bring some water from home for them. Water can be stored in a large water jug with a spout on it or simply in a milk jug.

4) Food – When storing food make sure that you bring at least a couple extra days worth of food. This is incase of emergencies that may prevent you from coming home on time. Extra food also ensures that you don't have to worry about your dog running out of food.

5) Toys – Pick at least 3 of your dogs favorite toys to bring with. They can be a great distraction when your dog is in a new place and needs something to do. Your dogs toys will also smell familiar to your dog which can be comforting if they are stressed out.

6) Treats – These can be a great way to convince your dog to do what you would like them to do if they are stubborn. Treats are also a great way to reward your dogs good behavior. They can also be used to train your dog which can help you wear out your dogs mind.

7) Leash and Collar – If your dog doesn't usually use a collar don't forget to pack one for them. Also, many places have leash laws so you are going to need a leash for your dog.

These are the most basic items that I would recommend when making a dog travel bag. You can always add more items to this list depending on your dogs needs and preferences.
