Although the holidays can be an exciting time and a lot of fun with your dog there something you’re going to want to keep in mind to make sure that your dog is safe during Christmas. The first thing to check is your dogs interest level in the Christmas tree. You want to make sure that your dog isn’t going to try to eat the tree whether you have a fake plastic tree or a real tree. You also want to make sure that your dog cant drink the water from the real trees dish.
Another thing to look at is it decorations on the tree. If you decorate your tree with glass ornaments they could fall off the tree and your dog could step on them. Also make sure that your don't will not try to bite at the ornaments on the tree. The danger of your dog biting at an ornatment is that the glass could break in their mouth and it could easily cut their mouth or create a dangerous situation if they swallow pieces of glass. A lot of ornaments are hung on trees with small metal hooks that are dangerous if your dog gets a hold of them. Finally tinsel seems like it wouldn't be dangerous however it can wreak havoc inside your dog if they eat it.
Although lights can be a great way to decorate your tree make sure that your dog or puppy is not going to chew on electrical cords or bite at the lights. The last thing you would want is your dog being electrocuted from trying to eat your Christmas tree lights.
If your dog really doesn’t care about the Christmas tree and leaves it alone you may want to leave it up. However if you have a small puppy or a dog that is way too interested in the Christmas tree you may want to consider blocking your dog from being able to access the Christmas tree. You could either do this by placing your dog in a crate when you’re not able to watch them. Or you can get a baby gate or x pen to block off the tree from your dog. Just make sure if you use a gate to keep the dog away from the tree make sure that your dog can't jump the gate.
