Ever come home from work to find your dog sleeping on the couch and the garbage all over the floor? Keeping your dog out of the trash can may seem trivial however it can be dangerous if they eat the wrong items out of the trash.
First off make sure your trashcan at a minimum has a lid on it. If your dog is still ripping apart the trashcan when you’re not home It would be a good idea to find a secure area to place the trashcan. For example placing the trashcan in a cupboard. If your dog knows how to open cabinets and keeps going after the trash can you can buy baby locks for the cabinets. Baby locks can easily be attached to the inside of cabinets to keep them from being opened by your dog.
If you really don’t want to keep the trash in a cabinet or secured somewhere I would recommend that you create your dog. This ensures that while you are home your dog is not eating something that is dangerous to their heath or that they could choke on.
