Dog Care – Vet Record Tracking

dog careWhen you go to the vet for dog care your vet likely keeps records but do you have a copy? If you do have a copy of your dogs vet record do you have a place to store the paperwork? While keeping vet records is always a good idea incase of an emergency if you can’t find the paperwork it doesnt help you very much.

I would recommend keeping a copy of your vet records in your car as well as at home. That way no matter where you are you have a copy of your dogs vet records in an emergency. If you travel with someone else and don’t take your car make sure to get your dog vet records book in case of an emergency.

To organize your dogs records you could use a folder if you want to keep it really basic. However if you have paperwork that is smaller the paper could easily be lost or hard to find in a folder. If you get a three ring binder you can get page protectors to sort your paperwork and make it easy to flip through. You can also use page dividers to sort the binder into different sections to make things even easier to find.

Don’t forget that if your dog is on medication to have the medication information in your binder. You could either take pictures of the pill bottle(s) or write the medication information down. This ensures that during an emergency you have access to a quick list of medication your dog is taking.

Finally I would highly recommend keeping at least 3 different emergency vets information in your binder. This information needs to include the address, phone, hours, name of the businesss, and directions. This makes sure that if your dog is injured and you are panicking you have quick access to the emergency vets information as well as your dogs medical records.
