Dog Care – Five Words Your Dog Needs To Know

dog careWhen providing dog care there are certain training words your dog needs to know to help prevent accidents. These may not seem that important, however if your dog decides to chase car having your dog respond to the word come could save your dogs life. Here is my list of 5 important words your dog needs to know to help provide the best dog care possible.

1) Sit – This is handy if you want your dog sit somewhere and not move for a period of time. You may even want to train your dog to sit when you come to corners or a curb so they know not to run into the road without your ok.

2) Quiet – Have you ever tried going through a drive-through and not be able to because your dog won’t stop barking? This is one of the many reasons why teaching your dog the word quiet is important. The word quiet also comes in handy if someone shows up at your house and your dog will not stop barking when they are at your door.

3) Sleep – I call this one sleep but some people call it play dead or they use the word bang to get your dog to lay on their side. This one can be really handy at the vets if they need to examine your dog stomach.

4) Paw – Some dogs really don’t like their paws being touched but if you’re going to clip your dogs nails you’re going to need to be able to hold their paw. This is also helpful to be able to look at the dogs paw if you’re afraid they stepped on something or they are limping so you can see if their paws cut or if they have something stuck to their paw.

5) Come – If your dog is running towards the road you can always yellow come to get them to come back to you. This command could easily save your dogs life. This can also be used in a public place where your dog is off leash for example a dog park to get your dog back to you so you don’t have to chase after your dog when you want to leave.
