There are a few different types of dog tie outs to help you care for your dog. These are a great help when you either don’t have the yard fenced in, your visiting a friend, or while camping. Please be sure to use your tie out with supervision because they can be dangerous.
1) Cable or rope type tie outs – These are either airline cable or regular rope with a clip on the end that you can either clip to something or wrap around the trunk of a tree or another secure object to keep your dog from wandering off. These are great however I strongly recommend using the airline cable. When I first got my dog Terra I used the rope type and went to walk back towards the house. I was thinking “wow this rope is longer than I thought” and when I turned around she had bitten through the rope and was just following along after me.
2) Ground stake tie out – These are a piece of metal that you screw into the ground and allow you to hook a leash or rope tie out to. They allow you to keep your dog in a certain area even if there is not a tree or large object to secure your leash to. Make sure to get one that is rated for the weight of your dog. The downside of these is that they can be hard to screw into the ground.
3) Trolly tie outs – This combines an airline cable tie out with a wheel system that allows your dog greater freedom without the cable getting caught on objects. These have to be installed between two secure objects for example two trees that are the distance of the cable.
