If you don’t know what dog mental exercises are check out my article called Dog Care | What Are Dog Mental Exercises. Here is a list of different ways to work your dog’s mind to help you with your dog care.
1) Play A Game – I always played find it with my dog. I would first lock Terra in the bathroom (because she would cheat and see where I put the treats) then I would go around with treats and hide them. Depending on your dog you can hide them in easy to find places or you can make the game more challenging. When I was done hiding the treats I would go back to the bathroom and open the door and tell Terra to find it. She loved running around the house sniffing to find where I hid the treats.
2) Agility – You can make your own agility equipment or go to a professional place and have your dog learn how to do agility. As a bonus agility is also known to help with a dogs confidence so it would be a great option for a shy dog.
3) Puzzle Games – Online you can purchase puzzle toys that allow you to hide treats in the slots of the board. Your dog then has to use their nose or paw to push the pieces around to retrieve the treats.
4) Training Tricks – Find a new trick that you want to teach your dog. It can be anything from roll over to turning off a light switch. It just depends on what you want to teach your dog and your dogs intelligence level.
5) Take A Trip – Take your dog to a place where they have not been before. This can be anywhere from a restaurant that allows dogs to a hiking trail. This allows your dog to check out new scenery and smells.
