Since you don’t really know your new rescue dog well or their history I highly recommend leaving them in a crate when you leave. This keeps them safe and prevents them from destroying your home. When you get to know your new family member better you can always leave them uncrated when you leave but I don’t recommend that when you first bring them home.
– Food and Water Dish
– Leash
– Collar
-Toys
I recommend a ball, kong and a chew toy. The kong you can stuff with peanut butter when you leave to give your dog something to keep them busy. The chew toy gives them something that it is acceptable for them to chew on. The ball works great for playing fetch.
– Treats
These are great for training.
– Food
If you are rescuing from a shelter the shelter may give you some food but it’s always good to have extra food on hand.
– Blanket or Dog Bed
This gives your dog a comfortable place to lay either inside our outside of their crate.
– Id Tags
If you don’t know what name your going to choose for your new family member please still get a tag just don’t put the dogs name on it. You can always get a different tag later but since the dog will be in a new place and will likely be confused and scared make sure that you have a tag so your new family member can be identified if they get loose.
