In my article 5 tips for camping with your dog I talked about things to consider when you camp with your dog but what if you need to stay with a dog in hotel?

First off when you make a reservation with a hotel make sure that they will accept your dog. Some hotels have a policy against dogs weighing over a certain amount and the weight is generally quite low, for example 25 pounds. In addition to this some hotels will charge you more for letting your pet stay there.

An item that I found very helpful to bring with is a crate. This gives your dog a small space to stay where they are safe and can’t damage items in the hotel room. Additionally this allows hotel staff to enter the room if they need to without risking your dog running out the door.

If you can it’s helpful to get a first floor room so that when you take your dog out to walk or to the bathroom you don’t have to walk as far.
